Almost Heaven--West Virginia Inspired Flavors

Unique, yet reminiscent of the good old days. Flavors that instantly take you back to the best moments of your life, able to be relived over and over again as that sugary bite dissolves on your tongue.

Buttered Popcorn--A family favorite, Buttered Popcorn brings back memories of our favorite movies. From Pirates of the Caribbean to Secondhand Lions, any John Wayne classic, or The Patriot, we Goonies never say die! Get that homespun, light-hearted feeling of nostalgia like you're hanging out with Uncle Buck himself. Buttered Popcorn is sure to please!

Candied Bacon--Sweet with a smokey finish. Sometimes living in the present is so much better. Bring back family brunch, but bring it to the forefront of family time. Sibling rivalry, cousin's secrets, pappy's stories, and meemaw's home cooking.

Cinnamon Hard Tack--Around here, no winter season is complete without homemade cinnamon hard tack candy. And if you don't make it homemade, someone among your friends and family does. Those spicy red pieces of cinnamon candy wrapped in a blanket of powdered sugar make the season bright. When you have a piece of hard tack, you're home for the holidays, no matter where you are.

Coal Miners Cake--West Virginia is coal country. From the early 1800s to the present, the world has relied on the coal miners to provide this black gold. Fathers and sons trudged into mines together, for generations, in the hills of West Virginia. Often their lunch pail hid a sweet treat--chocolate cake with cherries, a basic "dump cake" type recipe, with rich fudgie frosting. This candy floss pays tribute to the men who spent their lives underground providing for their families, and the wives who prayed every day for their safe return home.

Dave's Peach Cobbler--Back when Dave ran French's Mill, the local co-op, you could get your feed, pick up your seed, and buy your peaches, all in one stop. It was there you could get the most honest conversation and the best advice, free of charge. Dave had white peaches that made the best peach cobbler. Those beauties where a whole handful of creamy, vanilla-inspired, juicy goodness that dripped with flavor and brought joy to your mouth with every bite. Dave's been gone for quite some time, and we miss him and his honesty and sweetness, so this one's for Dave.

Great Grandma Dean's Dill Pickle--Not too sweet, not too salty, just deliciously dilly with a bright finish. Brings me back to lunch at the kitchen table on the farm during summer. Work was hard, family was love, moments made memories.

HampCo County Fair--Reminiscent of summer nights spent in the sheep and steer barns, watching adult showmanship contests, weaving in and out of ride lines, listening to live music, and eating midway treats like old fashioned ice cream and sticks of cotton candy. You know, back when people were honest and a handshake meant loyalty.

Honeysuckle--Sweet and bright. Summer days in pure perfection. Soft, flowery sunshine on a gentle breeze down by the creek. Honestly, life doesn't get much sweeter than that.

Hot Pepper Jelly--I'm sweet and he's spicy. But we meet in the middle and it works perfectly. We are a team, and teamwork makes the dream work. Just like all married couples, this flavor marries sweet and spicy in a way that just works.

Lavendar Lemonade--Believe it or not, there are several lavendar farms in and around West Virginia. While some may think of nightime routines and singing lullabies with lavendar, there are many recipes that shine with this soft, fragrant flavor. From cookies and teas to cakes and cocktails, lavendar lends a sophisticated twist to culinary dishes. Lavendar lemonade is perfect for afternoon refresher. This sweet floss is a surprisingly delicious twist to the old standard.

Meemaw’s Front Porch--Tracy Lawrence said it best back in 1994 with his song “If the World Had a Front Porch” when he said “we’d still have our problems, but we’d all be friends. Treatin’ your neighbors like your next of kin wouldn’t be gone with the wind.” Meemaw’s front porch was made for rockin’, listening to the peepers in the spring, resting in the shade during the dog days of summer, or watching lightnin’ bugs on a cool summer night. The front porch is where you greeted neighbors, argued with your kinfolk, and snapped your beans for canning. It was where you dreamed, and where life happened while you were planning. Some of my favorite memories are watching my daughter and her cousins play on that old front porch. This flavor brings back the sweetness of home with tart lemonade as it mingles with watermelon and peach, a West Virginia summer at its best.

Nana's Banana Pudding--Ain't a picnic without Nana's banana pudding. Perfectly sliced bananas, creamy pudding, and crushed vanilla wafers, topped with a dollop of whipped cream. And suddenly, the world is right again. Mmmm-mmmmm! Now that's sweet nostalgia.

Paw Paw--Not just the fruit, but the sweet smalltown charm of West Virginia folks in our hollers and hills. Sweet and unique, just like our folks.

Smokehouse Bacon--Bring back that smokey FFA bacon like it used to be, way back in the day, when you "hugged your ham," and salted your own sides. Friends were real, and you knew who had your back. You bonded over contests and competitions, and you cheered each other on because even though you might be competitors fighting for the same ribbon, your success meant our success, and that collective win drove collective pride for a job well done.

Strawberry Lemonade--I grew up working on my grandparents' produce farm in Pennsylvania. My summers were filled with produce, and my favorite were strawberries. I used to go outside in the evening and sit in the field and pick fresh berries to eat. Now in West Virginia, I wait all year for strawberry season. Walking into our local farm market in berry season takes me home in an instant. And I don't know a lemonade that doesn't dance with strawberries and not feel a little brighter, and a little sweeter. So this one is a nod to my childhood home from my beloved home in the hollers.

Summer Peach Harvest--Bright, juicy, sweet peachy goodness. We wait all year for the first ripe peaches to fall off the trees and into our hands. From canned halves to fresh pies, cobblers, and jams, our West Virginia peaches deserve their own celebration.

Wildflower Honey--Here in West Virginia, honey isn't just for hot tea. It's for buttered hot biscuits, cornbread, and peanut butter & honey sandwiches. It's for hot totties and helping the medicine go down. And in the Potomac Highlands we have a lot of local people jarring up their own liquid gold while they support the local honeybee population and wildflower scenery. We should all be grateful for their efforts. Without honeybees, we would have nothing. No farms, no food, no life. This cotton candy brings sugary sands of honey melting in your mouth with every sticky fingerful. A thoughtful reminder to bee sweet.
